HOW TO MOVE WITH KITCHEN APPLIANCES
Is your refrigerator or range coming with you to your new home? You will need to be sure these items are disconnected and ready for transit before moving day. This includes heavy-duty cleaning and servicing. Here are our tips on how to move with your appliances.
• Remove and dispose of any perishable items, most of which fall into our non-allowables list (with the possible exception of moves under 150 miles). Defrost and drain any freezers, clean out any grease and residue from ranges or ovens, and disconnect and separate all knobs, grates, coils, etc.
• Consult a professional to disconnect any high voltage or gas connections. If it is more convenient, AZ Active Movers can coordinate this for you with one of our many trusted partners.
• Similarly, we suggest having that same, or another local professional reconnect your appliances.
HOW TO PACK COMPUTERS AND OTHER ELECTRONICS
Computers and tablets contain valuable work-related, personal and financial data most of us cannot afford to lose. Naturally, you want to safeguard it from loss or damage.
• A common best practice in our technology driven society today is to always backup your data - even more so when you are moving. If anything were to happen to your computer during this time, you don't want to lose all your family photos, financial documents, or work files. Create copies of all these files on an external hard drive and keep that with your personal items in your own vehicle.
• Be aware that any electronic device can be sensitive to extreme high and low temperatures. It may be best to keep these items in your own vehicle, where you can better control the climate.
• As with all your belongings, be sure to confirm all your electronic devices are present and in the same condition upon delivery. In extreme temperatures, waiting 24 hours for devices to adjust to room temperature may help avoid potential damage.
HOW TO PACK CLOTHES
Moving clothes from closet to closet is a breeze with wardrobe boxes. These specially designed boxes have built-in racks that hold your clothes right on their hangers, and provide the advantage of:
• Unwrinkled clothes
• Less time and effort to pack and unpack clothes on hangers
• Greater protection for fine garments and longer lengths like suits and evening dresses
However, if you do not want to use a wardrobe box, each item can be removed from its hanger and folded carefully into a suitcase or box lined with news wrap.
HOW TO MOVE WITH YOUR HOUSEPLANTS
Moving your houseplants could be more difficult than you might expect. Plants are categorized as "perishable" items under federal guidelines. Because of this, federal law prohibits them to be transported by regulated moving vans for distances greater than 150 miles, or on trips greater than 24 hours in duration.
• If your trip is under 150 miles, it may be possible to transport your houseplants by moving van with the rest of your belongings. Such accommodations are at the discretion of your AZ Active Movers agent.
• If your trip exceeds 150 miles, we may not be able to relocate your plants, but you may still transport them in your personal vehicle. Your car has the added benefit of being the safest way to move your plants, due to its temperature-controlled environment.
